Since 1827

Ye Olde Trail Tavern was built in 1827 by Elisha Mills and his son William as Elisha's Tavern, a hand-hewn log structure that was reportedly the only building in Yellow Springs along what is now Route 68. An addition was made in 1847, and under William Neff's ownership the property became associated with the Neff House summer resort, drawing eastern travelers seeking the town's iron-rich healing springs. Cathy Christian ran the tavern from 1986 until selling in January 2017 to Christine Monroe-Beard and Don Beard, owners of the nearby Peach's Grill. The Beards' planned quick refresh turned into months of structural work — sistering beams and replacing trusses in the original section — before the tavern reopened in mid-2017. It continues to operate today as a tavern billing itself 'Ohio's Oldest Tavern ~Since 1827~.'

The rear portion of the building still contains the original hand-hewn logs from the 1827 construction — visitors can drink beside walls raised when John Quincy Adams was president.
