Town Hall Bar

The Town Hall Bar's building at 103 Main Ave. W was built in 1935 by Clifford and Gladys Moe and has been listed as a bar in building records ever since, making it West Fargo's oldest continuously operated bar in the same location. North Dakota had been dry since statehood, only legalizing beer sales in 1932–33 and hard liquor in 1936, so the bar dates to the very first years of legal drinking in the state. Ownership passed through several hands — including William Parkhouse from 1964 — before Greg and Betty Peterson acquired it in 2008. A classic small-town dive, it sponsors local sports teams and hosts pool and dart leagues and karaoke, with much of its staff employed there for over a decade. It celebrated 90 years in 2025, and with Bismarck's Peacock Alley (1933) closing in June 2026, Town Hall now has a strong case as the oldest continuously operating bar in North Dakota.

Town Hall Bar is older than its own city: it opened in 1935, two years before the surrounding area even incorporated as the Village of Southwest Fargo, and more than half a century before today's unified West Fargo took shape when it merged with neighboring Riverside in 1989.
